The holiday season is often a busy one for us all and as the new year approaches, many people start thinking about their resolutions.

Because your home is often overlooked (and rarely makes the New Year’s Resolutions list) we’ve put together our top 5 suggestions to start 2022 off right!

Top 5 New Year’s Resolutions For Your Home

1. Clean Out The Gutters

Your gutters should be cleaned out at least twice a year.

An early spring cleaning will ensure your gutters are ready for the heavier rain season. Inspect your downspout extensions as well to make sure they’re intact and can properly carry water away from your home.

Do this again in late fall. Wait until after most of the leaves have fallen off the trees but before winter weather arrives.

2. Check Window and Door Gap Seals

Did you know the weather stripping on your windows and doors saves you up to 30% on your energy bills? However, they’re bound to wear down over time letting in unwanted drafts of cold and warm air.

Put it on your resolutions list to do an annual check of your window and door seals. If you notice that the weatherstripping is only coming loose in a few places, you can apply a sealant to secure it in place once again. If it looks like it needs more than a minor fix, it’s best to go ahead and replace the entire strip.

3. Check Your Sump Pump System

Your sump pump is what keeps groundwater from backing up into your basement. It’s important to check on it regularly to ensure that it’s working the way that it should.

You can perform a test by filling the hole around the pump with enough water to raise the float, then the pump should kick on. Also, make sure the outlet pipe is carrying the water away from your house.

4. Get An Annual Roof Inspection

It’s easy to brush off getting a roof inspection until you have a leak and find yourself frantically calling around for an emergency roof repair.

Instead, get ahead of any repairs with an annual inspection. It’s better to know if you have any missing shingles or small holes before they lead to more costly damages.

5. Inspect Your Foundation

Inspect your foundation for signs of termite damage and tunnels. This may look similar to water damage with swollen floors or buckling wood.

Also take note if you notice any cracks on the outside of your foundation. If you do, consider calling in a professional for a more thorough examination.

Now that you have our recommended resolutions for your home, the next step would be to take action.

Call and schedule your inspections and maintenance services now. Even if it’s months in advance, you can mark them on your calendar and be rest assured they won’t fall by the wayside in the new year.
